Protecting Vehicle Graphics From UV Damage

After months of gloom and doom, grey skies and rain – the UK is finally getting a much needed dose of sunshine. Who knows how long it will last but whilst we’re all in good spirits we thought we’d remind you to keep an eye on those vehicle wraps that work so well for your business! These tips also help avoid general wear and tear because who knows, it could be hailstones tomorrow!

We thought we’d offer a few quick and easy tips on protecting your vans and cars from UV damage to stop them fading quicker than they should whilst exposed to this sunshine (even if it does turn out to be short lived)

  • Keep it clean! Seems obvious but the best way to avoid fading is to scrub the old fashioned way – mild detergent (or a dedicated car wash product) and water (not too hot). Automated brush washing can cause scratches to the wrap so it’s best to do it the old fashioned way.

  • Drying your car properly with a cotton rag protects the paint from minerals left behind by water evaporation, that are then intensified by the sun and can cause damage

  • Waxing really is the most effective way to keep it looking new. It helps to combat UV rays as well as preventing dirt and grit from sticking to the paintwork.

  • If you’re really serious about keeping the shine, some drivers invest in a paint protection film to wrap around their car for all round aesthetic safety!

However, with next week’s forecast expecting flash flooding and the unpredictableness of the British weather, the first three steps should suffice. It doesn’t look like this mediterranean sun is here for long.

It’s important you do your bit to look after the vinyl, but a professional installation will ensure there are no exposed edges where moisture can gain entry and cause it to look damaged, taking some maintenance pressure off you.
