Glass Manifestations: What You Need to Know

Ever walked straight into a glass door, thinking there was nothing there? Well, you’re not alone, but it won’t happen again! It is now a legal requirement for all floor-to-ceiling sections of glass such as windows, doors and partitions to feature manifestations to prevent collisions. There are a few rules surrounding this regulation, so read on to find out what you need for your business.

Design

Many businesses choose a simple design such as a row of circles or squares in a frosted finish, which would be the minimum requirement and creates a professional look. However, this regulation is also a great opportunity to get creative and use something more interesting such as a company motto or a custom pattern that represents your brand. This is a really cost-effective way to add character to your workspace. If you go for a larger design that covers the bottom half of the glass, this also has the added benefit of privacy.

Placement

Whichever style of glass manifestations you decide to go for, the graphics must be visible at two levels – between 85 cm and 1m above the floor and between 1.4m and 1.6m above the floor. If you’re using two rows of graphics, rather than one large decal that covers both of these areas, they must be at least 15cm in height. The graphics have to contrast against the glass and be visible from both sides.

Installation

Glass graphics are made from specialist film that can be either digitally colour printed or frosted to give the appearance of etched glass. The film is self-adhesive, so once the glass has been thoroughly cleaned, the backing is peeled off and the film is applied in sections. Wrinkles and bubbles are removed using a nylon blade, for a seamless and smooth finish that looks as if the glass was made that way!
